Bob Woolmer once bought me an ice-cream
Woke up this morning to hear the shocking news on the radio that Jamaican police have announced that Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer had definitely been murdered in his room last weekend during the Cricket World Cup. Previously thought to have died of a heart attack the coroner has confirmed that he was in fact asphyxiated, probably by someone he knew. His death followed Pakistan's humiliating exit from the competition at the hands of Ireland the 1000/1 outsiders.
I'm a lifelong supporter of Kent Cricket Club and when I was 11 years old Bon Woolmer , one of Kents greatest batsmen ever, bought me an ice-cream at the clubs St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury during a one day game against Yorkshire. He was buying one for his own kids and seeing me standing in the queue on my own he bought me one too. I've always thought he was a nice bloke since then.
Rumours are that he was about expose a match fixing scandal and that his murder was to silence him.
I hope they get the bastard that did it.
Rest in peace Bob.
